supported by meliora
Supported by Meliora is a vital part of how we assist people to build their best version of an ordinary life. It is about real work, fair pay, genuine inclusion, and the chance to grow in confidence, skill, connection, and purpose.
At the centre of it is a simple belief: anybody who has a sincere desire, and the willingness to work, deserves the opportunity to do so. To earn an income. To produce outcomes they can be proud of, and to impact other people’s lives.
With a range of employment opportunities across multiple sectors, including potential support for people to develop their own social micro-enterprises, we cast our nets wide, seeking those who are ready to work.
Read below to understand what supported employment looks like at Meliora, what opportunities are emerging, and how to express your interest.
archie cafe
Archie is our plant-based restaurant in Carseldine, becoming the clearest expressions of what Supported by Meliora can look like in practice.
It is a real workplace, serving real customers, with proper expectations and a wonderful executive chef leading the kitchen and upholding a high standard of food.
But Archie is about more than serving great meals. We are building a workplace where people can gradually build capacity, contribute, earn a livelihood, and even build a real career if they want one.
Archie forms part of our vision around nutrition, education, and community. Over time, expect more food gardening in this project, so workers not only prepare and serve food, but help grow it too.
We are expanding the Archie team, looking for more disabled people to join us, and working towards opening more hours.
what families are telling us
One young Archie worker’s family recently shared that before coming to Meliora, they were bracing themselves for a battle-ready to push, argue, and course-correct to make sure their son was properly included. Instead, they have been thrilled by how collaborative, thoughtful, inclusive, and positive the process has been.

A dynamic plant-based cafe serving bold, nourishing meals, employing people with disability and hosting community events.
other opportunities
We have been employing disabled people in cleaning and gardening roles for many years, and they form an integral part of our team. We are also building opportunities across food growing, administration, and future micro social-enterprises, with a new café for the South Burnett already in the works.
We also want to work with older Australians who still want to contribute. Barb, our oldest and hardest working employee, who is also a Director of Meliora, just turned 70 herself. Age is no barrier.
