Over the past five years, we’ve learned plenty about what makes a good worker. A person who is self-responsible, kind and caring, and willing to be frank and genuine. Someone who demonstrates thoroughness, efficiency, effectiveness and economy in their work.
Through that time, we’ve been able to attract, recognise and retain people who’ve become part of our team. At Meliora we’re pretty close knit and communicative. We work as a team to achieve better outcomes for our participants. And we have care for each other. We’re always growing and as new clients come along, often looking for the perfect support worker for their personality and needs.
We’re still far from perfect. We make plenty of mistakes. Each one of us is a work in progress. But we are working on improving as we go, and building systems to ensure that what we learn, gets implemented in our whole team.

I like to be a person of action and adventure, I'm not opposed to measured amounts of risk. I love exploring the natural world, especially the underwater world. I can be selfish and self-involved at times but am working to resolve this. I like to think that I can be relied upon. I may be busy a lot of the time and not always at the forefront, but I am when I'm needed and it's important. Also, I keep my finger on the pulse in the background, keeping updated on all the comings and goings of our clients.

It's not a specific activity. Rather, its to do something that the participant believed they'd never be able to experience, achieve or enjoy. That's incredibly rewarding to be part of.
When someone asks you why you are a support worker, what do you say?:
I say that I'd never imagined that I would work in the field that I am now and that I'm still here because it feels like a really important and rewarding way to be of service.
If you could go back and talk to your younger self, what advice would you give?:
I would tell him that the conscience is a real thing, valuable and worth listening to. That following his conscience will lead him to happiness, and going against it will lead to pain and suffering for him and everyone around him.
If you could have a superpower what would it be and why?:
To fly, I've always wanted to fly like an eagle. Or to breathe underwater. Who could decide...
What is your favourite Movie or TV Series, and why?:
The Green Mile. It really explores judging a book by its cover, and the risks of acting based on assumptions, rather than really understanding people's intentions and motivations.

I’ve spent years supporting people in aged care and the NDIS. I’m down-to-earth, honest, and like to keep things light with plenty of laughs. I take time to understand your needs and make sure the right supports are in place. Outside of work, I love cooking, baking, gardening, and exploring life’s purpose — and I’m always happy to share what I grow, make, or learn. If you could go back and talk to your younger self, what advice would you give?:
Worry less and laugh more. Be kind and patient with yourself and others. Try new things, meet new people, and don’t take life too seriously.
If you could have a superpower what would it be and why?:
I’d choose to never need sleep. More time for creating activities, sharing laughs, and getting to know people — plus plenty of time to bake, try new recipes, garden, and cook up a storm to share.

One of my favourites is One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. It’s raw, powerful, and full of unforgettable characters. It’s about courage, humour, and standing up for yourself — and it reminds me of me at times, especially when trying to fit in.

I love animals, dogs in particular. My ideal day is being a home with my partner pottering away in our garden with our chickens and dogs. I have a fascination with dinosaurs and ancient history. I like crafting, going on nature walks, baking (though I'm not very good at it) and dancing around my house while I do my cleaning. It's okay to make mistakes if you learn from them. You don't need anyone's approval. The hardest things to do are always the most worthwhile.

Teleportation, you would save so much time and see so many incredible things.

I enjoy a good comedy series that is mindless to watch and you can watch any episode and know whats going on like The Office or Parks and Recreation. I enjoy a good superhero movie, but my all time favourite movie is Jurassic Parks because I have always loved dinosaurs and for a long time wanted to be a Palaeontologist.

I have a passion for literacy - Spelling, reading and writing. I also have a passion for children, those of us in adult bodies included. Especially I have empathy for those who suffered language failure at the most important time of their life for developing it often due to an educational and social system that continues to fail millions of Australians.
I have seen the effects of reading and literacy failure upon many generations boys especially and have personally suffered the effects of 'math failure' in my own life and understood its consequences over a lifetime.
When I discovered the Spalding method I knew it would do everything that the whole word method did not. It is a no - nonsense, diagnostic, sequential and accumulative old fashioned but scientifically based, multisensory approach that works.

Saddened by life experiences.
Honest about those experiences and my avoidance of them over my life.
Developing faith in releasing those experiences and enjoying what's left.

To time travel mixed with being able to travel anywhere in the universe, a little weird but I want to be able to have that superpower to learn the evolution of the world and all its history itself, as well as exploring the universe and all its mysterious.

My favourite movie of all time is, Interstellar. I love sci-fi and this movie takes you on a journey. It's a beautiful story that just captures you straight away. It's a movie I can watch over and over again.

I am a mother of 3, I love the gym and being out in nature. In always going for walks, hikes, beach, adventuring to new waterfalls or swimming holes. Sunsets and pretty skies are my thing. I also enjoy cooking and dancing, going out to eat new foods.

I would say that I am like a warm hug, I’m friendly and full of life, a great high vibe energy but also calming and safe to be around. People often say they feel so relaxed, seen and understood when in my company.

Being in a position to be able to support people in their employment has been super rewarding. Everyone should have the opportunity to earn a living wage and be able to feel proud about the work they do.

Take your time, live slow. You don't need to have everything figured out. The good things come along exactly when you need them.
If you could have a superpower what would it be and why?
Teleportation would be great. Especially if you could bring someone along. Instant holidays, a sunrise any time you need one, an easy trip to see friends and family, as well as being super helpful to myself and others-instant transport for those in need, or just help the old lady cross the street!
