Picking a provider out here isn’t like the city. Towns are spread out, fuel costs bite, and worker capacity goes up and down. The right provider is reliable, respectful and straight with money, and knows how things work in Kingaroy, Nanango, Murgon, Wondai, Cherbourg and the smaller places in between.
Start with what you need right now
You might start by jotting down the help you’re actually chasing: morning personal care, getting to town, therapy, help with paperwork, a regular social outing. You don’t have to put everything with one company. If anyone pressures you to do that, it’s fine to say no. Mix and match to suit your support needs, book a short trial, then see how they go.
Who’s around locally
Capacity changes week to week. Give a few a ring, ask about your days and times in your town, and listen for clear, straight answers. Keep in mind, this list doesn't mean we endorse any providers. We're just happy to provide some useful information.

Travel, time and money
Regional billing can get messy if it isn’t clear up front. Agree on travel and cancellations before the first shift. Ask providers to confirm:
Where the worker starts the trip from and how kilometres and travel time are charged
When higher rates apply
Any minimum shift or call-out fees
What counts as non-face-to-face time
A sample invoice with item codes, hours, rates and any travel
If an invoice looks odd, it’s fine to ask for the logged start and finish times. That’s a normal request.
How to spot a keeper
Turns up and communicates. A text the day before, a call if roads or weather are an issue, and a backup plan.
Transparent billing. Clear travel, no funny rounding, quick fixes when there’s a mistake.
Respects your pace and culture. Supports dignity of risk.
Knows local systems. Can help with GP referrals, Centrelink and community services when you need it.
Professional in public. If workers wear uniforms, notice how they carry themselves on shift, and when you see them at Kingaroy Shoppingworld or a local cafe. Courtesy and boundaries matter everywhere.
About those horror stories
There are plenty of local stories in the South Burnett about providers doing the wrong thing. Do your homework. Ask people you trust who they use and why, test attitudes on the phone, and see if actions match promises over the first few shifts. If not, change course early.
Quick questions to ask before you sign
Do you have capacity in my town on the days and times I need
Where will your worker start the trip from, and how do you charge travel
When do you charge higher rates
What is your cancellation policy
How do you fix invoice errors
How will you match me with workers, and what happens if it isn’t a good fit
Bottom line
Out here, pick on capacity, honesty and fit for your support needs. Call around, keep it simple, try a short start, and stick with the crews who show up, work safely and bill fair and square.
